A quote has been published from ITV’s Kate Teckman: Entertaining, with scale and purpose, we are finally getting an answer to “who ate all the pies”? [Kate wasn’t on the Panel but it was too good a quote to let go]. Jo says, it’s funny but it is about something. It’s obesity, about male mid-life. Lots of issues, Poignant. Laughter and tears. It creates a prism with which to look at the issues rather than look at them directly. What a clever way in.
Note: I thought Jo’s comments were really apropos. That is the best explanation of how you can turn a collection of cold facts into an entertaining show. She also demonstrates how a commissioner looks at a pitch.
Sometimes innovation can be in the promise of a Title. For example, “an hour to catch a killer”. This is in spite of there being many shows following the police. You can all think smart about a mainstream subject, just think about a new way. Itv is not art house. We are TV, it is at 9pm, just think of a new way in that feels absolutely brilliant. Smart and clever. [I think this was made by ITV Studios]
