Media Technology Day 2019

The BBC NHU are now filming in 8K and often in 16 bit and as a consequence recorded over a  Petabyte of data (essence).  This requires a team of DIT to process that much data! Each Dynasties episode takes a 360 GB Prores file.

More clips from Seven worlds, One Planet were shown that focus on getting close up to some very dangerous animals.  BBC NHU has been filming in 4K for  seven years, so they must have quite a back catalog. To do this they need powerful zoom lenses but as we know powerful 4K zooms are very expensive. So they have had to use adapters on their cameras to bridge that gap. Converters on their old HD Lenses.

NHU now use a lot more gadgets, e.g. sliders and Gimbals. There is a trend to film natural history as though it were cinema. NHU work with scientists all over the world and so they get to hear of new behavior in animals straight away.
