The latest thing from Sony, and a host of other camera makers is the “Full Frame” chip size. This is 36 x 24 mm, compared to the Super 35 size 18.66 x 24.89 mm. These sizes are kinda sorta based on 35mm film layouts. Sony have been featuring “Full Frame” chips on their A7 series cameras (A7S2 etc.). They have certainly been featuring Full Frame on the Sony Venice camera however that is targeted as a Cinema Camera whereas the Sony FX9 is more of an Indie or TV camera. People have been making films on iPhones so the chip size isn’t really a barrier to film-making but certain cameras can be best suited to various applications.
