SONY: Full Frame Film-Making

One of the problems encountered with the FS7 was that for a mid-market Camera (circa $12K) a lot of the accessories to go with it would double or triple that price. With the FX9 Sony seem to have adopted a more pragmatic attitude, the accessories should at least be in the same price band as the Camera. There will be a new XDCA but there will not be an extended storage unit. To cope with the new 16 bit raw (from the new FX9 XDCA) Sony hope to partner with the existing vendors of camera top storage.

It does not have the Venice sensor.

The FX9 does have 4 “pots” so you can control audio levels on all recorded channels. There are still only 2 XLR ports, if you want the extra two you need a dual channel device sitting in the MI shoe, the  UWP-D wireless microphone systems (UWP-D an optional extra).

An S.Cinetone tone curve has been adopted from Venice but modified for the FX9.

Timecode in and out has been added as well as GENLOCK.

An interesting feature is that gyro data from the lens is recorded and that can make use of new code in  Catalyst to produce a stabilised image. The stabilisation in other cameras is in the camera. The stabilisation is very high performance.
