The Future of Factual: A Commissioning Panel

At the beginning of the Panel the chair asked what issues people were interested in and 4K came up. The same question was put to the Panel. We heard from Jo Clinton-Davis (Factual Commissioner ITV) who is known for her frank opinions,  who is much more concerned with getting good ideas for programs. The Panels view was that 4K is only valid if it advances your story. A few years back there was a movement to support 3D TV. This has all but fizzled out, the question was asked: could 4K follow on from 3D and the answer was that it was still possible.

The BBC also showed a Travelogue going around to places that are on the brink of change. It does allow the BBC to visit places that are normally off their usual agenda.

ITV have commissioned a new series of Harry’s Heroes. The first run of this show was very successful. In a way this is good news for ITV, the commissioners goal is to find repeatable/returnable programs as the first series is always the most expensive.  However I read a bit more in to it, to the extent that I expected them to present a new show. I wonder if ITV are running out of ideas.
