Technology was very interesting. The main camera, mentioned above was a Sony FS5. I’ve added a link below that contains, among other things, a picture of one of the FS5 Rigs. With a Sony A7S to film close in shots and some gopros to film on the trains or in the cabins. During filming they dropped the FS5 in favor of the A7S. Even though the FS5 vis a very compact Camera, once you add the Rig it looks a lot bigger. In places where they are not familiar with larger Cameras the very size can be a problem. The A7S just look like ordinary consumer Cameras and people everywhere are more willing to accept them. Usually a team of two contestants was followed around by two camera professionals. They used Lavalier mics that were running all the time so there were no boom mics (and cats). So they were quite “under the radar” when travelling on buses etc. They didn’t use Satellite dishes to do live links or any of the LiveU gear you might see on a UK based show doing similar things. The media were all uploaded on the chase cars and the Camera batteries were charged as well.
